Inspired indoor play area for the National Trust

When the National Trust wanted to create an external looking play area (indoors) at Belton House in Grantham, they turned to Degafloor and The National Flooring Company for inspiration.

Belton House is a classic 17th century English country house which is owned by the National Trust and set amongst impressive grounds within the old market Town of Grantham. The grand building with its opulent decor and fine furnishings is a popular visitor attraction which provides its guests with the opportunity to relax and explore through the estate and enchanting gardens. Another of its appealing features is The Ride, a cafe and indoor play area, a favourite with families. When the National Trust wanted to create an external looking play area (indoors) they turned to Degafloor and The National Flooring Company for inspiration. The cafe, which is an internal feature, was created to replicate an external picnic area with an adventure playground for children. With the project design parameters set to find a solution that would complement the theme, the National Trust contacted Degafloor and The National Flooring Company for potential solutions. It became apparent following initial discussions that the Degafloor Stone Carpet was ideally suited to the project. The attractive system encapsulates natural or coloured aggregates in a clear resin matrix, however to ensure a gravel type appearance was maintained natural aggregates were selected on this occasion. The installation which totalled over 200m2 was completed with minimum disruption and has created a modern and exciting dining facility for young children. The restaurant, located within the same forecourt as the new cafe remained open to visitors throughout the development. To ensure the installation had no impact on their daily operations the project had to be carefully planned and managed. The new cafe area called The Ride, has combined the contemporary with the traditional and has helped to encourage young families to visit the impressive country attraction.
