Morgan Stanley Clinical Building, GOSH, London

This £100m project required the full spectrum of resin flooring products in the kitchen and associated areas, the restaurant and interactive play areas. 388 linear metres of curved, pre cast, resin terrazzo coving was manufactured and installed on contoured walls and columns.

The Morgan Stanley Building is part of a £250m scheme to redevelop and provide new state of the art facilities for the famous Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, the world leader in treatment and care for critical and terminally ill children. The new facility, which enables 20% more children to be treated and provide provide pioneering research and treatment, was opened in Olympic year by Lord Coe and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson. This £100m project provides new, innovative, facilities at this world famous children’s hospital. It required the full spectrum of resin flooring products in the kitchen and associated areas, the restaurant and interactive play areas, on an underlying substrate that included under floor heating and a building without any structural movement or expansion joints. State of the art kitchens provide over 800 covers daily from breakfast to supper for patients, parents, staff and public. The 708m2 flooring and 478 lm coving had to be completed within a two week time frame by working at weekends and overnight. On level 2, the interactive play area and restaurant involved 1,200m2 Mondeco Exotic and 388 lm coving and was completed within a five week period, again working at weekends and overnight. Flowcrete manufactured the curved, precast, radiused coving in resin terrazzo, which McDaid’s installed to contoured walls and columns. At the time of installation, this was the largest amount of resin terrazzo radiused coving on any one project. The project as a whole met with both BREEAM and NEAT ratings, deliveries to site were maximised, all waste was recycled and all operatives travelled to and from the site on public transport.
