Power Company gets tough flooring solution
The refurbishment of Western Power Distribution’s depot and garage in Derby has provided long term performance, durability and slip-resistance with minimal disruption during installation.
Having worked on a number of Western Power Distribution facilities already, IRL were the natural choice for the refurbishment of the concrete floor at the company’s depot and garage in Derby. A hard-wearing and fast-applied flooring system was required that would offer long term performance, durability and minimal disruption during installation. IRL turned to the extensive product range and technical expertise of Sika to provide a hard wearing, slip-resistant finish that would resist heavy equipment and have an elastic nature to absorb impact. For the 2000m2 depot a system featuring Sikafloor(R)-161, Sikafloor(R)-375 and Sikafloor(R)-359N was chosen. Sikafloor(R)-161, 2 part epoxy resin, was used as a highly moisture resistant primer. It was then covered with a wearing course of Sikafloor(R)-375. Broadcast with quartz aggregate for anti-slip qualities and resistance to abrasion, it is an ideal choice for trafficked applications. To complete the system, a seal coat of Sikafloor(R)-359N was applied. Abrasion resistant, it offers excellent mechanical resistance and superb crack-bridging properties. Following the removal of the existing flooring in the adjacent garage, over 700m2 of the Sikafloor(R)-20N Purcem was applied at a 9mm depth. Highly resistant to chemicals, fatty acids and temperature, it is a polyurethane modified cement screed offering excellent strength and because it normally requires no primer, its installation is considerably less complex than many other systems.
