Remmers and Advanced Resin Technologies overcame significant challenges to provide a hygienic floor for a food production area within an old cotton mill.

Remmers and Advanced Resin Techologies have provided a hygienic flooring solution for a new food production area on the first floor within an existing factory building. Built in 1845 the old cotton mill building situated in Ashton under Lyne provided significant challenges in both design and application as the existing structure of red brick arches had limitations on loadings that made conventional systems unsuitable. The load bearing capacity of the arches was not sufficient to support a concrete slab and subsequent resin floor finish. With the area being situated on the first floor of the building, the only access was through the ground floor production area. The finished floor is tough, decorative, slip resistant and hygienic with a dead load capacity of 5KN/m2. Subfloor works were carried out using Haftfest polymer modified, Lytag concrete screed which was pumped into the building through a first floor window. The resin floor finish utilized a two coat Epoxy MT100 damp-proof membrane topped with 4mm of Floormix DQ decorative quartz with an in-situ coved skirting details of 116m2.
