The NVQ Level 2 in Preparing and Profiling Substrates begins with foundational training in health and safety, employment rights, and responsibilities. Candidates are introduced to the various tools and equipment used in surface preparation, including grinding machines and shot-blasters. Assessors will work closely with participants to ensure they understand the importance of substrate profiling and the correct techniques to achieve high-quality results.

Over the course of 18 months, candidates will undertake a combination of practical training and theory. They’ll learn how to prepare surfaces in diverse environments, from commercial to industrial settings, using industry-standard equipment and techniques. In addition to practical skills, candidates will also develop a deep understanding of moisture control, expansion joint treatment, and the safety considerations that underpin effective surface preparation. Throughout the NVQ, assessors will evaluate progress through on-site observations and assessments.

By completing the NVQ Level 2 in Preparing and Profiling Substrates, candidates will be qualified to undertake professional surface preparation work across a wide range of industries.
